Inspired by the spring tulips rising from the frozen ground, this needle felted gnome features a hat made from various fibres. Farhad Lalezar, Gnome of the Tulip's hat is made from Olive and willow, conifer green merino; Cranberry merino and Wensleydale locks; Unbleached tussah silk; Light olive bamboo; Green hand dyed trilobal, and sparkly gold Angelina fibre.
His locks are from Blue Faces Leicester and Wensleydale locks.
Why the name? Tulips are extremely important to Turkey and Iran (what was Persia). They have a lovely Romeo and Juliet story. Boy meets girl but can't have the girl. Girl dies. He kills himself and out of his blood comes the first tulip. That is a very chopped version, but the name Ferhad was the name of the boy.
The word "lalezar" means "bed of tulips" in the Middle Eastern languages.
Put the words together and you get a lovely name with a beautiful story and why tulips symbolize love and passion.
