Caer, Gnome of the Swans

Cáer the Gnome of the Swan was inspired by an Irish story of the Celtic god Aenghus. He dreamt about his true love. She happened to be the goddess Cáer Ibormeith who shapeshifts into a swan. In order to marry her, and break the spell, he had to pick her out of a flock of over 150 other swans. He did.

I wanted Cáer to be swan-like with a hat shaped like a swimming swan. The "sprout" part of the hat is a thick bendable wire. I wanted it to look as proud as a swan's neck (but then I curled it 😁).

Swans look soft, so this batt is incredibly downey, made of different silks, BFL, bamboo, ramie, rose and merino.
